WINE HARVEST COMMEMORATIVE EVENT

The Wine Harvest Commemorative Event is an iconic annual event hosted at Groot Constantia on the first Thursday of every February. It marks the momentous occasion of the birth of South African wine and pays tribute to the individuals and organisations who have made extraordinary strides towards the ongoing success of the wine industry whilst calling for a blessing on the new harvest.

South Africa stands out among wine-producing countries as it knows the exact date of its wine industry's inception: 2 February 1659. A diary entry announced, “Today, praise be to God, wine was made for the first time from Cape grapes.”

The 2025 Wine Harvest Commemorative Event is made possible through the generous support of Groot Constantia, Standard Bank, Air France-KLM, Western Cape Department of Agriculture, South Africa Wine, Wesgro, Die Burger, Cape Town Tourism, MCC Labels, and Seabourne Logistics.
